The Governor of California, Jerry Brown, signed Senate Bill 306 into law on October 3, 2017, to take effect on January 1, 2018. This new law allows an employee to receive injunctive relief from an employer on “showing that reasonable cause exists to believe a violation has occurred” and authorizes the Labor Commissioner to issue citations to employers determined responsible for violations.
Further, it states that if an employee is discharged in a retaliating manner and suffers adverse action, that the employee who made a genuine complaint is entitled to reinstatement and reimbursement for lost wages.
